There has been recent reported instances of theft of fuel from farms and rural based businesses. This often occurs following a sudden rise in diesel prices but this is not the case on these occasions. A large amount of fuel was stolen from a farm in the Stourpaine and at a rural business in the Christchurch area. Dorset Police Rural Crime Team can provide crime prevention advice on the storage and security of your fuel. Some key messages include: * are all tanks dipped regularly , secured and locked to restrict theft? * install tanks within secure buildings or cage if possible. * consider installing anti-siphon devices as well as alarms. * install motion sensing CCTV and lighting. * consider planting spikey shrubs or fences to ‘hide’ the tank - and make sure empty drums around your property are removed to prevent them being used to steal your oil.
