THEFT OF DIESEL |
THEFT OF DIESEL Unfortunately there have been three recently reported thefts of diesel. These include farms in Winfrith and Duntish and a commercial isolated property near Wimborne. Many farm tanks are full this time of year as the maize harvest comes to completion. Diesel theft involves stealing diesel fuel from vehicles and storage tanks and is a growing problem for farms, rural construction sites etc , often committed by siphoning or breaking into tanks. Prevention methods include: improving security with fences, lighting, and cameras, securing fuel tanks with robust locks and alarms, Use alarm systems that can alert you to unauthorized access using deterrents like "diesel dye" to make fuel traceable. install sight gauges on tanks and monitor them regularly for signs of tampering or low levels. Diesel thefts are of course ‘red diesel’. Which can only be used in authorised vehicles. You may hear of persons using red diesel and indeed boasting about it! They may offer the diesel at a much reduced price.
If you see any suspicious activity near diesel tanks then please consider a '999 call if the offence is actually taking place. For other suspicious activity please note down the details, in particular Vehicle Reg Numbers,( or you may see numerous jerry-cans on the back of a vehicle late at night).
Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk, quoting the relevant reference number. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online at Crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.
