Scam alert - Ferndown |
||
|
Good evening,
I have recently visited the victim of a fraud in Ferndown and I wanted to share this alert as a reminder to please be cautious when answering unsolicited telephone calls, particularly from callers purporting to be from your bank.
The victim, who was called on their landline telephone, was told that a sum of money had been deposited into their HSBC account and that it was ready for their collection.
The victim told them that they had no knowledge of this and was then pressured into withdrawing an amount in cash and told they needed to return it to an address in LONDON provided by the fraudsters. The cash was sent as instructed and using an express same-day Royal mail delivery service.
Often with this type of scam, the address that the cash is delivered to will be completely uninvolved in the fraud. Fraudsters use this tactic as a means of covering their tracks and making it very difficult for them to be traced. They may even use a residential address, where they will swiftly arrange for a courier to attend and collect the enveloped cash from the unsuspecting resident.
If you’re unsure, always stop, think and check.
Find out common tactics fraudsters use so you're ready to spot them and stay ahead of scams.
