Shed Burglaries in Sherborne Area

Alert message sent 28/06/2019 08:52:00

Information sent on behalf of Dorset Alert

Two garden sheds have been broken into around the Sherborne area during the past few days. The first was a shed in Longburton on the 22nd of June and the second shed was in Hummer on the 27th of June.

Have you ever stopped to consider what's in your shed and how much it's worth?
Despite the continuing low crime figures in Dorset, sheds and outbuildings remain vulnerable to thieves looking for garden tools and machinery, cycles and sporting equipment all of which are often left unsecured in sheds and garages. Why burgle a house when there's a shed left unlocked in the garden? Is your shed/ outbuildings regularly secured and locked?

• Consider fitting mains or battery operated alarms to outbuildings or around the perimeter of your property on gates and access points.
• Installing remote gate alarms and hidden cameras can also alert instantly if someone unauthorised is on the property.
• CCTV and intruder alarms will deter most thieves but make sure they are checked regularly to ensure they will work when you need them and they are placed in a position that won’t be triggered by animals or foliage moving in the wind.

Please take the time to access what you leave in your garden shed and how it is secured.
