scam calls

Alert message sent 04/12/2020 10:06:00

Information sent on behalf of Dorset Alert

This message is to alert members of some scam calls, where the caller is purporting to work for a Police force and that they are investigating fraudulent activity, or use of cards.

We have had a couple of reports that state a caller has said they are a PC or DC from a Police Force, such as the Metropolitan Police, and they are advising of a transaction or use of a card they believe to be fraudulent.  They may ask you to confirm some details.  Please ignore and hang up on any such call.  The Police do not operate in this way.

Please also advise others that may be vulnerable to this type of call, as they may believe the caller is from the Police.  If anyone is concerned about such contact, DO NOT give or confirm any details, hang up the phone and contact your bank to confirm all is in order.  If you believe you have provided any details to a caller, please contact Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040, or online at actionfraud.police.uk.

Thank you.
