Appeal for witnesses following report of large fight in Poole

Officers investigating a report of a fight in Poole are appealing for witnesses or anyone with mobile phone footage to come forward.

Dorset Police was called at 10.36pm on Thursday 1 April 2021 to a report of a fight involving a large group of people in the car park at Tesco Express in Shore Road. 

It is alleged that glass bottles were thrown during the incident.

Officers attended the area to disperse the group, assisted by the NPAS helicopter and the ambulance service. The area was cleared by around 12.50am on Friday 2 April 2021.

While at the scene, it is reported that one officer was spat at and sustained a minor head injury. A second officer sustained minor injuries to her head and arms.

A 19-year-old man from Poole was detained in connection with assaulting emergency services workers, but he was later released and taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries to his head and hand. 

A section 35 dispersal notice was issued ordering people to leave the area until 8am on Friday 2 April 2021.

Police Constable Jenny Walsh, of Poole police, said: “A detailed investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances of what happened.

“There were approximately 150 people in the area and I am appealing to any of them who witnessed the incident and have not already spoken to police to please come forward.

“There were a small number of people who attended hospital for treatment on the night of Thursday 1 April 2021. I would also like to hear from anyone else who was injured and has not yet contacted police.

“Finally, I understand this incident was filmed by members of the public on mobile phones and I would ask anyone with footage to please get in touch.”
