Police Sergeant Sarah Jones, of the traffic unit, said: “An investigation is underway to locate the vehicle and driver involved, including assessing CCTV footage.

“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed what happened, or may have relevant dashcam to assist my enquiries, to please come forward.

“I am keen to hear from anyone who is aware of a red Citroen C2 that has been damaged since Sunday and would ask you to please contact Dorset Police.

“Finally, I would urge the driver to please come forward so we can take your account and establish what happened.”
