A Sherborne resident has become a victim of a scam telephone call. The victim received a call from a person claiming to be from Sky TV who said that the victim’s Sky Box needed upgrading. The caller then asked the victim to verify their payment arrangements as a ‘security measure’ which included their bank payment details.

The scammers then rang the victim for a second time, this time claiming to be from the bank’s fraud department. The caller said that they had noticed a large amount of money had been removed from the victim’s account and that they needed to move the victim’s money to a ‘clean account’. Thousands of pounds were then removed from the victim’s bank account.

The genuine fraud department at the victim’s bank is now investigating this fraud.
